General Play and Conduct

The 11th edition UPA Rules will govern Summer League play.

Games will be played on Thursday nights with a prompt 6:30 pm start. If a game is delayed in starting due to tardiness of one team, the present team will begin to assess points at 6:40 pm. After the initial point is assessed at 6:40 pm, then subsequent points will be assessed for every five-minute period in which the game is delayed. If at 7:00 pm the game is still unable to be conducted, then the team at fault will forfeit the match.

Seven players constitute a full team with 5 players making a partial team that can compete if that is all that is available at the start time. Points will be assessed or the game forfeited with any less than 5 players at the start.

Games will be played to 15 and must be won by two points. A five minute half will be taken when the first team reaches 8 points. Three timeouts (2 ½ minutes each) per game will be given with no more than 2 allowed per half. Timeouts can only be granted to the team who has possession of the disc. A hard cap will be called at 8:30 pm. Once the cap is called then one point will be added to the highest score on the field. If the cap is called while a point is underway then the cap does not take affect until after either team scores the point. That highest score plus one will now be the score that will end the game when reached by either team. The win by two rule is not in effect after the cap has been called. Also there are NO timeouts allowed once the cap is on.

There will be make-up-games in cases of severe weather which requires either the cancellation or the suspension of a game. The games will be saved for a Tuesday later in the season.

There will be a ten-yard brick rule for any pull that goes out of bounds after it passes the 10 yard brick mark while in the air. Any pull that lands in the end zone must be played from the point where it is picked up from or where it rolls out of bounds.

The ratio of men to women on the field can either be 5/2 or 6/1 per team as chosen by the offensive team. Defense has to match the gender ratio on the field.

All guest players who wish to play with a team may only do so if the captains of the team agree upon it at game time or before.

All scores and spirit ranks must be reported to the Summer League Coordinator promptly following the competition of each game.

Spirit

The game of Ultimate is built upon the SPIRIT of the game. To uphold this supporting value the CUPA Summer League will have a Spirit Award for the team which best exemplifies such in every aspect of play. To do this teams will rate their opponents on a 1-10 scale (10 being the high) after every game. The criteria for this rank should be the general team attitude, the manner in which violations and conflicts are dealt with, the willingness to help others develop new skills, and overall sportsmanship before, during and after play.
